A memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony will honour the memory of Lycurgus Logothetis, leader of the Samian Revolution of 1821, on Thursday 6 August, at Logothetis Square in Karlovasi.
The ceremony will begin at 11:30 in the morning, in the presence of local authorities, institutions and citizens, paying tribute to one of the most important figures in the history of Samos.
The event is part of the commemorative programme for the 202nd anniversary of the historic Naval Battle of Samos, fought on 6 August 1824 in the Strait of Mykale.
This decisive victory prevented the Turkish invasion of the island and is one of the most glorious moments in modern Greek history.
The event is an opportunity for remembrance and historical reflection, honouring those who contributed decisively to the preservation of the freedom and historical identity of Samos.
