A special event dedicated to the history of tourism in Samos, organised by the Samos Chamber of Commerce, on the occasion of the launch of the commemorative book «Fifty Years Ago in Samos» – marking 50 years since the arrival of the first charter flight, the starting point of the island's modern tourism development.
The launch will take place on Saturday 1 August, at 19:30, at the Town Hall of Kastro, Pythagoreion.
Through rich photographic material, historical documents and personal testimonies, the book – edited by the editorial team of «Apoplous» magazine – traces the journey of Samos from an island with a predominantly agricultural economy to a major tourist destination of the Aegean.
Its pages document the first organised visitor arrivals, the creation of major hotel units, the expansion of the airport, the upgrading of infrastructure, and the changes that shaped the island's modern character, while highlighting the people who played a decisive role in this transformation.
The event is a journey through the collective memory of Samos and a tribute to all who have worked for the island's tourism development.
Organised by the Samos Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the Cultural Association «Lycurgus».
