For the twelfth consecutive year, the Hellenic Mountaineering and Hiking Club of Samos (EOPSS) invites young and old to a special night-sky experience on Saturday 8 August.
The event takes place at 21:00 at the Sacred Band Memorial, near the Holy Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi — an ideal spot for stargazing, far from city lights.
With the guidance of Antonis Panagiotou, participants will travel among the summer constellations, discover the stories and ancient myths behind them, and learn how the sky has long been a source of knowledge, orientation and inspiration.
Nature lovers can start earlier with a short hike of about 1.5 km along the old path to the venue. Departure is at 19:30 from the Mourtia – Zoodochos Pigi junction.
Organisers recommend bringing a mat or beach chair for comfortable viewing, plus a light jacket or blanket for cooler night hours. A torch is also useful for the return after the event.
The stargazing evening has become one of the club's most distinctive summer activities, combining hiking, astronomy, mythology and the beauty of the Samian landscape.
