For the 12th consecutive year, the Hellenic Mountaineering & Hiking Association of Samos (EOPSS) invites young and old to a special stargazing experience, on Saturday 8 August.
The event takes place at 21:00 at the Sacred Legion Memorial, near the Holy Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi – an ideal spot for stargazing, far from city lights.
With the guidance of Antonis Panagiotou, participants will explore the constellations of the summer sky, discover the stories and ancient myths behind them, and learn how the sky served for centuries as a source of knowledge, orientation and inspiration.
Nature lovers can start earlier with a short hike of approximately 1.5 km along the old path leading to the event site. Departure is at 19:30 from the Mourtia – Zoodochos Pigi junction.
Organisers recommend bringing a mat or beach chair for comfortable stargazing, a light jacket or blanket, and a torch for the return journey.
